This year’s grand prize which will be awarded to the Gameathon Game Master is a 32’ LG LCD TV and a RCA sound system. The winners of each individual game will receive a $50 gift card to GameStop, prize bundles from GameStop and Valve, and a Gameathon shirt. Each member of the winning Rock Band team will receive a $25 gift card to GameStop, the instruments played during the competition, and a Gameathon shirt. Everybody who attends Gameathon will get free food, access to great games played on top of the line HD TVs and a PC gamer’s lounge, as well as the opportunity to win various prizes given away during the event. Though preregistration is about to close you can still register to play at the event. If you have not registered visit www.gameathon.org. Walk-ins will be accepted until we reach maximum competitors so if you miss preregistration you can still register at the event.

Gameathon 2009 this Saturday!

Gameathon 2009 is Saturday! Gameathon will take place at Mass Media Hall and the expo will begin at 10:00am. The expo will feature various game consoles (provided by GameStop) hooked to high definition TVs (provided by ColorTyme) so you can play the hottest titles all day long. The Western Kentucky University Game Researchers Group will be on the expo floor showcasing a trailer from their latest project as well as co-sponsoring a PC gaming lounge with Valve. Wii tournaments will be available throughout the day offering a great prize to the winners of each. Food from Papa John’s and Jimmy John’s will be available on the expo floor along with beverages from Pepsi.
The competition will begin at 11:00 with Halo 3, Madden 09, and Rock Band 2 being played. Also at 11:30 and for the first time at Gameathon the PC gaming competition will begin. PC games being offered for competition at Gameathon include Counter-Strike and StartCraft. The Counter-Strike competition will begin at 11:30. The PC gaming competition is made possible because of Valve providing the event with licenses to their games for the day. The next portion of the competition begins at 2:00pm. Games being played at 2:00 include Call of Duty: World at War, Guitar Hero, and StarCraft. The winners of each individual game will win an awesome prize and be eligible to compete for the title of Gameathon Master. The Gameathon Master will be named after winning a competition amongst the individual winners on a mystery game. The Gameathon Master will win a high definition television. The winners of Rock Band 2 will receive an awesome prize along with getting to keep the competition instruments.
All games are on a first come first serve basis. There is a limit for the amount of gamers that can compete for each game so register now.

Gameathon Update 03.16.09

Hello WKU students and gamers! Gameathon is honored to have recently added new sponsors to an already amazing list. ColorTyme will be providing us with televisions that will be featured on the main expo floor of the event. These televisions will be paired with various game consoles provided by Game Stop to provide you with entertainment and gaming opportunities even when you are not competing. PC games will be offered for competition this year and this is made possible largely due to the help from the WKU Computer Science Program and the WKU Game Developers Group. PC games available for competition will be Starcraft and Counter-Strike. Valve is providing us with the license for these games making it possible to offer these great PC titles free of charge! Big Gameathon News!

Hello WKU students and gamers! It is official this year’s event will include PC games! There will be two PC games offered this year one in the morning session and one in the afternoon. The titles will be announced soon so stay tuned. Another exciting item of news is that Gears of War 2 will be a competition game this year. In other news we are happy to announce that Pepsi has agreed to sponsor this year’s event and will be providing competitors with drinks throughout the day. Gameathon Update 03.02.09

Hello WKU students and gamers! I can’t believe that Gameathon 2009 is just a little over a month away! The Gameathon team has been hard at work to make this event as fun and exciting as possible. We have finalized the list of this year’s competition games, they include: Halo 3, Call of Duty World at War, Madden 09, Rock Band 2, and Guitar Hero World Tour. We are still discussing the possible addition of Gears of War 2, a Wii competition, and some PC games.
We are still accepting request to be a ref at this year’s event. Being a ref is a paid position and refs cannot compete. We also need as much help as we can get so if you are interested in referring or just joining the Gameathon event planning team please contact us. The Gameathon team meets every Wednesday at 7:00 in Mass Media room 333 so if interested in helping or just curious please stop by. You can also participate in Gameathon discussions and receive updates by adding Wku Gameathon as a friend on Facebook.

Gameathon 2009

Hello WKU students and gamers!

My name is David Gray and I am the Event Manager for Gameathon `09. I will be working hard from now until April 4th to make sure that Gameathon `09 is the best yet! Last year’s Gameathon was a huge success thanks to Adam Faragalli and his team and I am fortunate enough to have him along as a resource for this year’s event. I know that with his help and support from our sponsors and the AD/PR department at Western Kentucky University this year can be an even bigger success.

Once again Gameathon is coming at you free of charge thanks to our wonderful sponsors. Revolution 91.7 has agreed to sponsor the event this year and once again Gamestop will be helping us out. We hope to be working with RAC again this year after they helped us out so much last year.

We are still in the early stages of planning this year’s event so check back frequently for updates. The next update will include a final list of this year’s competition games. Since we are still in the early stage of planning that gives you, the gamer, a chance to influence this year’s Gameathon. To make this year’s Gameathon the best to date we want to hear the gamers’ opinion. To make any suggestions on how we can improve this year’s event please communicate with us on our WordPress blog or by becoming a fan of Gameathon on Facebook.

As always we will need help in a variety of ways to make Gameathon happen. If you are a student this is a great way to get involved on campus and beef up the resume. We will also need referees to maintain order in the competition rooms. Being a referee is a paid position so those selected will not be able to compete. If you are interested in helping out or being a referee please contact me (david.gray@wku.edu) or Cliff (cliff.shaluta@wku.edu) as soon as possible.
